Fixtures

This isn’t about Football Fixtures or anything so if you’re expecting that then sorry :-)  Although Scotland managed to avoid being hammered by Argentina so that’s a good sign, maybe…  Losing 1-0 to them is no disgrace really.

Racks, Shelves, Fixtures, Fittings, Slatwall, Gridwall, Fixed, Floating and many other terms that have been bouncing round my head.

It’s all well and good knowing the product ranges and where they’re going to be in the shop but you’ve got to have something suitable to put them on…

Product placement

Thinking about comics and a few other things has me having another look at sample layouts of the shop.

For those of you that have seen the floorplan that I’m using as a guide you’ll know what I mean when I say that the shop will likely have zones.

Standing room only

I’ve been thinking about comics a lot of late, specifically in relation to how to plan the comic section of the shop.

Long time readers (or recent readers who’ve scanned backwards) will have noticed a distinct lack of comic posts on the blog.  This is largely down to 2 reasons.

Spreading the word some more!

Ok so this weekend I’m planning on visiting the Dunfermline Wargames Club on Sunday (2nd November) to have a chat with the people there about my plans and get an idea of whether they will be customers or not and if I need to look at additional product ranges.

I’m going to DWARF on the 7th for a re-visit and also to catch up with my mate Erik that I’ve not seen for a while and he goes to DWARF when he’s not globe trotting and losing Warhammer armies on planes…

I’m still planning to go to Legion Games in Dunfermline on Sunday 16th November but that’s dependent on a couple of things.  Specifically my wife will likely be walking over the new bridge at Kincardine as part of a charity event to raise funds for Strathcarron Hospice.  That might have a bearing on whether I’ll be able to make it along or not.

The Kirkcaldy Gaming Club are planning on having a Warhammer 40K Apocalypse game on the 30th November.  This is likely to be the next time I visit there unless I can fit them in during the interim.

I’ve still to go back and see the people at The Gaming Kingdom in Leuchars again.  At the moment though I’m not sure when I’ll be able to fit that in.  Monday nights aren’t that ideal for me so it might have to be their once a month Sunday session again.

Other than that I’ve nothing else planned for visits but plenty of other stuff happening.

Website Changes

I’ve rebuilt the website (other than this blog) to make things a bit easier for me to manage.

The previous incarnation used a dedicated ecommerce application called CubeCart and a dedicated forum application called Simple Machines.  Both of which are very good products in their own right.

I wanted to merge all of the functions into 1 site as much as possible, including this blog.  The application I’ve chosen as the root is called Joomla and it’s software I’ve used for other websites.  At the moment there is no easy way to integrate the blog but everything else (shop, forum and calendar) can be done within Joomla.  The plan is to either leave the blog as is or at least automate some sort of import of blog entries (constantly investigating).

The shop itself is offline for now as I’ve not finished configuring it and at the moment I have no plans to reinstate it.  Once the physical shop itself is nearer opening the online shop will open again.

In the mean time the new forums and calendar will be used to track my progress and any events that are happening of relevance to the shop and my plans.

So why don’t you go and take a look at the “new” website by visiting http://www.kingdomofadventure.co.uk/ and let me know your thoughts either here or by registering on the forums and making a post.
